Hello and welcome to Keba's Anime and Manga Place (KAAMP for short)! Here at KAAMP, I write about anime and manga that I have seen/read as well as my views on them. I'll also post about my original stories from time to time.

Just beware that some of my posts contain spoilers. I'll put them in spoiler tags just in case.

KAAMP's history: KAAMP was created in July 2002 by yours truly. It was a sloppy-looking website on Yahoo's now defunct Geocities. I posted my anime fan art on that site. Also, for a time, I posted my thoughts on the few anime series that I had seen. Now that I look back on it, my thoughts were rather ill-informed (is that even a word?) because I had only seen bits and pieces of anime dubs. Now that I've seen more series, I think that my commentary on various anime will be a little better than before.

So, come on in and stay awhile! KAAMP is now in session.

Keba's Big Ol' To-Do List

OK, so it's come to this. I've been making lots of lists for various things, so I might as well make one for theO. This will be for my drawing, writing, posting and other stuff.

Higher priorities will be in bold.

Writing
The Rebels of Planet Aadau: Write chapter 5
Destination: Finish chapter 7. Post chapter 6 through whenever this arc ends.
Survival Instincts: Give chapters 9 and 10 a tune-up and post. (Currently in Fiction Feedback Central.)
Develop ideas about mythological creatures story.
Develop ideas about comic book characters in the "real world" story (low priority).
Develop ideas about a girl who finds a portal to another world and has adventures with a talking sheep (low priority).

Drawing
Anime portraits of bands/music artists?
"Hero in Armor"
"Inner Children"

Manga-ing which is totally a word
Start planning Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood fan manga.
Draw summer-themed Fullmetal Alchemist gag comic.

Yeah, that got really long really quick. I do realize that life happens while you make plans, but I need a plan in order to conquer life.

Full Counter Anime Poll!

Introducing theOtaku's unofficial Full Counter Anime Poll.

You know that thing going on with the voting and all. Having learned that a randomizer was involved, I think the poll selection wasn't entirely fair. I know there wasn't enough room for every series, but the selection seemed a little... off without certain well-known titles (*cough*Sailor*cough*Moon*cough*).

Now, I still encourage everyone to vote in the official polls. What I'm trying to do is make a list of favorite anime, as nominated by Otakuites. It would be more of a countdown than a poll, so as not to infringe on the official polls.

If you guys like this idea, I will amend this post with rules/how to nominate/other stuff. If there isn't much interest, I'll just scrap the idea. So, whacha think?

OK, we're gonna do this guys! Cue epic battle music.

I want this post to go viral. Er...

Da rules (read 'em 'cause you'll need 'em):

1. PM me with your 10 (for now-- I might ask for 10 more) favorite anime.
2. Nominations will be by PM ONLY. Comments with your 10 favorites will not be counted.
3. There does not have to be an order to your top 10.
4. Don't worry if you nominate the same series as someone else. That's actually a good thing because then that series will be ranked higher.
5. The length of the list depends on how many different anime are nominated.
6. The cutoff time is open-ended. I'll give a one-week warning before the polls close.
7. Series will be listed by "umbrella" names. That means, if a series has a sequel, reboot, or spinoff, they will be listed under the name of the original.
8. Please list the series by their English names, if they have been translated. You may disregard this if the official English title is the same as the Japanese. I only made this rule because I can't keep all the original Japanese names straight. If you want to include the original Japanese title, please do so in parentheses alongside the English title. If you're not sure what your favorite series is called in English, Anime News Network and Anime-Planet are good places to check.
9. I know that rules 7 and 8 have some "fuzziness" to them, so if you're unsure about something, feel free to let me know, and I'll do my best to clarify it for you.

Bonus AwesomePointz (TM):

1. Keep checking back. Things can change, so I'll post updates.
2. Promote this post! The more people who participate, the better. And I'll give you a present.
3. Have fun! (But you knew about that already.)

Update: We have our first submission! Keep 'em coming, guys. This also made me realize that I had to amend rule 8. To summarize, if the official English title is in the original Japanese, you don't have to translate it. I knew there would be some "fuzziness".

Things I'd Like to See on theO

I'd like to thank Toya for posting about her favorite comics on theO. This in turn made me think about theO's comics, which then made me think about things to improve theO's fan comics section, which then made me think of all the little tweaks that can be made to make theO a better place. So here's a little list.

Edit: Thought of one more.

  • A function that allows users to filter comics by whether they're finished or not. There could be a checkbox or radio button as to whether the comic is complete or ongoing. By default it will be set to ongoing. If there are completed comics that have been made by users that have long since abandoned theO, there could be a team of users to hunt them out and report them to the admin/mod team on theO to be marked as complete. If such a team could be made, I'd like to volunteer.
  • A way to remove favorites from the favorites page instead of going directly to the source. If you notice, there are people who have deleted their accounts, but the thumbnail for their art is still there. If you can't have access to your favorite art anymore, why keep it in your favorites? When someone clicks on it, they'll just be taken to the Dreaded Error Page and won't be able to see the art nor can they "un-fave" it. It's a real catch 22, if you think about it.
  • A way to add World posts to users' favorites. Before the Fan Words section was removed, users could add published works as their favorites. Now there is a section in my favorites that displays my favorite World posts, which were just former Fan Words. That's what inspired this idea. I don't think there is a little heart to click on for easy access to World posts that users find especially awesome. It would be great if there were.
  • A way to browse Worlds. Yes you can search for them by selecting "All", but then you only find worlds and posts with whatever matches what you searched for.
  • Either get rid of or bring back those "in limbo" sections. When I search and select "All" from the menu, I can still see Fan Words as one of the links that can be clicked on. That gives me access to the Fan Words section, complete with the outdated "submit" policy, and the ability to create Challenges. The same goes for myOtaku. I didn't even know what it was due to the fact that it's not fully integrated with theO. When I did see myOtaku, the sites looked like really ugly Worlds. Do we need this? Is myO necessary? Are these two sections that I mentioned alive or dead? They shouldn't be both.
  • A way to search by title. Let's face it, some people just don't know how to tag, if they tag at all.
  • A way to specify whether a character is a fan character from any given fandom. I think there used to be a checkbox that did that. What happened to it? Anyway, if this is implemented, there could be a search team (like there would be with the fan comics) who seek out fan-made characters from fandoms that they are familiar with. Also, the Fan Comic top 15 categories has a "Fan Characters" category. Why can't I see, much less select that category when I submit something? Maybe you should abolish it and merge it with the "Original" or "Personal" categories.
  • Some way to hide fan works that contain spoilers. I made a post about how furious I was when people were inconsiderately posting fan works that gave away major spoilers to a series that I wasn't up-to-the-minute on, but was following anyway. If there was some checkbox or something to hide spoiler-ridden fan works, I'd really appreciate it.

OK, so maybe that wasn't such a little list. Still, I wanted to type all this out before I forgot it. Thanks for reading.

Goals for the New Year

I thought that since it's the end of 2012, I might as well list some goals for 2013. I'll mostly concentrate on artistic persutes and things that pertain to theO.

1. Draw more. I want to get in at least one picture per month. That way, I can do an end-of-the-year art meme. I think this goal is going to have a lot of sub-goals.

1-A. Draw fan art from series that I've never drawn from before. Self explanatory.

1-B. Practice drawing my characters. They need some development.

1-C. Enter more Challenges. This year, there weren't a lot of Challenges that I was interested in. Heck, there weren't a lot of Challenges, period.

2. Start my web comic. It's going to be about me and my OCs. There will be much craziness. This goal can be broken down further.

2-A. Learn to use my tablet. I want this comic to be as computer-centered as possible.

2-B. Learn to use Manga Studio. I've had it for quite some time, but never figured it out. And when I mean "quite some time", I mean the version I have is no longer current.

3. Crack the Fan Art Top 25. Yeah, like that'll happen.

4. Buy a scanner. I don't want to have to go to my parents' to scan anymore. It's a waste of gas to drive just for that purpose. I'll have to do a lot of shopping. Large scanners are expensive.

5. Write more. Poor "Rebels" is neglected. "Survival Instincts" needs an update. I have to figure out what else to add to my library as well.

6. Make a wallpaper. I know the Wallpaper section is kind of dead. But I want to try my hand at one anyway.

7. Do my voice meme. It's still open. Ask me anything, so long as it's appropriate.

8. Start a Challenge. I have SO many ideas. I just can't think of any of them when I get on theO.

Wow. That's a lotta goals. And that's only for art. I have some guitar goals, but I don't want to list those 'cause this is a VISUAL art site. Then again, I do have some ideas about incorporating my music with theO... but that's for a later date.

So, since this is "Comment Day", what are some of your personal goals for the year?

Anime that I have seen bits and pieces of and don't intend to pursue anymore:

Dragonball Z
Cardcaptor Sakura
(AKA Cardcaptors)
Pokemon

Voltron

Anime that I want to watch:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Inuyasha: The Final Act
(I forgot what the Japanese title is.)
Hetalia
Trinity Blood

Movies that I have seen:
Princess Mononoke

Looking over my list, I see how anime/manga-illiterate I am. Most of the series that I have seen and want to see are pretty mainstream. And of course, the ones I want to see outnumber the ones I have seen. Boy, I've got a lot of work to do.
