The BBC have announced the premier date of the remaining eight episodes for the current season as March 30th.

UPDATE:
Following the BBC's air date announcement, BBC America and Canada's SPACE channel have also confirmed March 30th for the start of Series 7.2.

BBC America airs new series of Specials for 50th Anniversary

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, BBC America will air a new series of specials, The Doctors Revisited. With one special a month, each of these will focus on a particular Doctor, from the start of the series right up to the present.

Kicking things off will be a look back at the First Doctor, played by William Hartnell. A man known more for playing tough guys, his creation of the role as an eccentric grandfather endeared him to an entire generation of kids.

The special starts Sunday, January 27 at 9 PM EST, followed by a complete Hartnell story from 1964, "The Aztecs". When the Doctor and his companions arrive in 15th Century Mexico, the Doctor is loathe to alter history, but when Barbara is mistaken for the reincarnation of a high priest, she dares to hope that she can abolish the practice of human sacrifice.

Whoscape

A very interesting piece of recent casting news.

Ben Browder, well known to scifi fans as lead character John Crichton in Farscape as well as Cameron Mitchell in Stargate SG-1, has been confirmed as guest-starring in the third episode of Season 7, set in a town in the American West.

Written by Toby Whithouse (School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice, The God Complex), the episode is currently being filmed on location in Spain at the Oasys Parque Temático del Desierto de Tabernas resort. Located in the only European desert, the resort sports several themed areas including a mock American Western town known as "Mini Hollywood". The area has hosted several famous films in the past, including The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Lawrence of Arabia, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

New 'Shada' Novelization and Audiobook

One of the great casualties in the history of Doctor Who is the 'lost' story Shada. Meant to close out the 17th Season, the story about an alien hunting for an infamous Time Lord mind criminal was written by Douglas Adams. Production was halted due to industrial action at the time. In 1992, the story was finally released on VHS with a mix of recorded footage and linking narration by Tom Baker. In 2003, the story was re-imagined, this time starring Paul McGann.

Now an official novelization & audiobook will be published on by BBC Books on March 15. It is adapted by longtime Doctor Who author and scriptwriter Gareth Roberts (The Shakespeare Code, The Unicorn and the Wasp, The Lodger, Closing Time). The book is already available to pre-order from Amazon in hardcover and Kindle formats. The audio version is read by Lalla Ward, who played Romana in the original story.
