New Books News

Two special new books are now available for pre-order.

Elisabeth Sladen: The Autobiography tells the actress' story from her beginnings through her career. It was completed just prior to her untimely death in April 2011 and contains a foreword by David Tennant.

For more information, visit The Doctor Who News Page.

Justyce Served - A Small Start With a Big Finish delves into the history of the Audio Visuals, a series of non-profit, fan-produced Doctor Who audio plays that ran from 1984 to 1991. The plays and those involved would one day go on to be involved in the audio company Big Finish Productions, which received a license in 1999 to produce official Doctor Who audio dramas featuring past cast members of the TV series.

The book is due for publication in Sept. 2012. Profits from its sale will go to Amnesty International UK. For more information, visit The Doctor Who News Page.

Matt Smith Wins at the Scream Awards

Matt Smith has won Best Science Fiction Actor at the 2011 Spike Scream Awards, beating out Daniel Craig (Cowboys & Aliens), Chris Evans (Captain America), Harrison Ford (Cowboys & Aliens), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Source Code).

Doctor Who was up in other categories as well but lost in both. The series lost Best TV Show to Game Of Thrones, and Karen Gillan lost to Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil: Afterlife) for Best Science Fiction Actress.

The awards ceremony took place on October 15, and will be broadcast on October 18.

Season 6 Finale Video Clips

At last, all will be revealed tomorrow in the season finale, "The Wedding of River Song".

In preparation for the big event, The Doctor Who News Page has posted some videos: an introduction by Arthur Darvill, two clips from the episode, and clips from Confidential.

Beware Potential Spoilers

Doctor Who Confidential Comes to an End

Since the revival of Doctor Who in 2005, its sister series, Doctor Who Confidential, has provided an essential behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of the program, with interviews from the cast, writers, and crew.

However, due to tighter budget considerations, the BBC will bring the program to an end this Saturday with the final installment "When Time Froze" following the Season 6 finale, "The Wedding of River Song".

This is pretty sad news, as Confidential has provided many laughs and insights over the last six years. My hope is that they may still do special editions of the program for major series events, such as further regenerations, as well as the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the series. Only time will tell.

Christmas Special 2011 Filming

Filming has begun on this year's Christmas Special, which Steven Moffat has described as the "most Christmassy ever". Set in midwinter during WWII, the Doctor is the caretaker of a "creepy old house in Dorset", and will embark on adventures with Madge Arwell and her two kids Lily and Cyril, which include a chase through a 'Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' type forest, complete with an icy villain.
